UNM's Chair: Nonsense to talk of power with two seats in municipal councils while your party faces ban
The United National Movement chairperson, Tina Bokuchava, has stated that it will be revealed in the coming days whether her party will participate in a process that involves a legal battle over the potential banning of political parties.
According to her, this is a predetermined process being carried out by the Constitutional Court, and its conclusion is already clear.
“It is nonsense; the regime is threatening to ban the party, while you discuss obtaining power in the municipal councils with just one or two individuals. However, I cannot comment on the decisions of another party; as for the United National Movement, we will determine in the coming days whether to participate in this process.
It’s a predetermined course, or the final act of a tragicomedy unfolding in our country at the hands of the Constitutional Court, which is, unfortunately, not focused on banning any party but on eroding democracy and the space for free expression. This is clear.
The Constitutional Court, except for a few judges, is as obedient as all other courts of law. Nonetheless, we will determine in the coming days whether to formally engage in this process to uncover the truth and to ensure that Georgia’s recent history is preserved,” said Tina Bokuchava.
