UNM's Bezhashvili: Russian imperialism is primary concern, not "Deep State" rhetoric

“The notion of a ‘Deep State’ peddled by the Georgian Dream is utterly absurd, especially considering the party’s consistent actions against the interests of the Georgian people and its implementation of Russian imperialist agendas,” stated Levan Bezhashvili, a member of the United National Movement (UNM) party.

According to Bezhashvili, the Georgian Dream’s proposed constitutional amendments regarding gender are irrelevant to Georgian society and merely an attempt to garner “bonus points” by manipulating this issue.

“Revisiting this topic is just another facet of the government’s propaganda machinery. What truly matters is how the new U.S. administration envisions its relationship with Georgia. Congressman Joe Wilson, Chair of the Helsinki Commission, has explicitly stated that Ivanishvili would be among the first individuals to face sanctions. This demonstrates that the new administration prioritizes the protection and advancement of Georgian interests. The discussions surrounding Ivanishvili’s potential sanctions clearly indicate whether the policies of the Trump administration and the Georgian Dream are compatible,” he emphasized.

Bezhashvili also highlighted the notable absence of Georgian government officials at the inaugural ceremony.

“It is telling that the new U.S. administration does not see anyone in the Georgian government worthy of an invitation to this significant event. On the other hand, it is commendable that opposition representatives are being invited to major events and are receiving recognition. The crucial point is that Ivanishvili is reportedly at the top of the list of individuals to be sanctioned by the new administration and that the U.S. will continue to combat dictatorial regimes while supporting the Georgian people,” he concluded.
