UNM's Baramidze warns of disguised opposition parties allegiant to government
“It’s not a new phenomenon that some politicians or parties in the political arena are disguised as opposition but secretly collaborate with the government,” stated Giorgi Baramidze, Political Secretary of the United National Movement (UNM) party.
According to Baramidze, the true measure of opposition lies in their actions rather than their official statements.
“What truly matters to us is the actual conduct of these opposition parties that claim to oppose the regime. Society is the best judge—it observes and will continue to observe who genuinely acts against the regime and who attempts to lend it even the slightest legitimacy. Just as a raven will never turn white, the regime will reveal its true colours. Society recognises those who seek to sow discord within the opposition camp. That is what counts, rather than speculating on who might be to blame,” he emphasised.
Baramidze reiterated that the presence of politicians or parties in disguise is nothing new to Georgian society.
“It’s not a new phenomenon that some politicians or parties in the political arena are disguised as opposition but secretly collaborate with the government. There are roughly 200 registered parties, but the number is irrelevant. If someone claims to be a party or a politician, that’s their choice. We are aware that some opposition figures collaborate with the authorities, and this is nothing new. The true nature of individuals or organisations is revealed through their actions. Therefore, we leave it to the Georgian society to judge and draw conclusions—who truly serves the national interests and who, instead, serves a treacherous, criminal regime,” he asserted.
Additionally, opposition figure Sanikidze issued a warning regarding certain opposition politicians engaging in behind-the-scenes negotiations with Bidzina Ivanishvili.
