UNM's Baramidze urges Georgians to rise above divisive politics and confront true threat
“I call on you to overcome the useful idiocy that clouds our minds. Do not engage in fights over posters of Mikheil Saakashvili, or any other individual’s poster, regardless of whether we like it, or over statements or positions taken by a person participating in a peaceful protest. This is not the primary challenge facing Georgia today. The real and greatest threat is the treacherous criminal regime that has seized control of our country,” declared Giorgi Baramidze, a member of the United National Movement.
According to him, it is impossible to defeat the regime unless the protest is rooted in truth and driven by unity.
“We must acknowledge that our success in this fight depends on two fundamental conditions: first, telling the truth—distinguishing clearly between what is black and what is white, identifying the core problem versus secondary issues; and second, unity. In the battle against this violent regime, backed by Kremlin propaganda, criminal elements, illicit funds, and all the mechanisms it has seized, including the Prosecutor’s Office, State Security Service, Ministry of Internal Affairs, and Special Units funded from the state budget, we need to stand together. We must be united; we need each other. All diverse political forces and people holding different viewpoints on the past and standing on various flanks must come together. What truly matters is being a patriotic Georgian citizen committed to prosperity, peace, European and civilised development, the return of immigrants, and building a democratic state—goals that are impossible without unity and mutual respect. We must foster unity and positivity, rooted in love for Georgia, its Constitution, and our national interests, which are currently under threat. It is evident that Georgia is being ruled by Putin’s Fifth Column, which seeks to isolate our country, deprive it of allies, and confine it within Russia’s sphere of influence,” he stated.
Baramidze emphasised that disputes over various issues should only continue after the peaceful removal of the regime.
