UNM's Ani Tsitlidze: Everyone deserves chance at unity, but crucial questions remain

“Everyone should be given a chance at unity, but particular questions must be addressed, specifically regarding the roles of Nika Gilauri and Paliko Kublashvili. How these individuals were removed from the United National Movement (UNM) over the course of 13 years is a matter known to many behind the scenes,” stated Ani Tsitlidze, a member of the UNM.

When asked why the United National Movement did not disclose earlier that a coalition was being formed under Ivanishvili’s leadership, backed by his financial support, to weaken the party ahead of the elections, Tsitlidze responded that “this was a mistake.”

“I am not the one to answer this question, as I spent the entire campaign period publicly raising concerns and asking questions about Gilauri. I believe Mikheil Saakashvili should have been more explicit on this matter earlier, at least before the elections. Unlike me, Misha is generous and capable of forgiving many traitors, including those he perceives as resources for reevaluation.

I believe everyone should be given a chance for unity. I am not suggesting that anyone is entirely innocent; the UNM has also made mistakes. However, it’s important to emphasise that the UNM has never been dependent on Bidzina’s money.

Regarding unity, I have no red lines with anyone, but some questions must be answered, particularly concerning the roles of Nika Gilauri and Paliko Kublashvili. How were these individuals removed from the UNM over the past 13 years, something that is openly known behind the scenes?

Otherwise, any attempt at unity will be a sham, and it will lack strength and effectiveness in the fight against the regime. If someone admits to a mistake and acknowledges having been wrong about something, they should be allowed to reassess and be granted a second chance. Until the political process is transparent and public, uncertainty will always persist,” she concluded.

In a social media post on November 3, Mikheil Saakashvili accused former officials Paliko Kublashvili and Nika Gilauri of campaigning against him.
