UNM Chair views competitive elections as unimaginable, while Saakashvili is behind bars

Chair of the opposition United National Movement (UNM) party, Levan Khabeishvili, met the EU Ambassador to Georgia, Pawel Herczynski, and ambassadors of the EU member states.

The UNM Chair said he spoke about the party’s good mood and preparations for the 2024 parliamentary elections at the meeting. According to Levan Khabeishvili, he has emphasised three main issues.

“It is unimaginable to assess the elections as competitive when the key opposition leader, ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili, is in jail. We informed our partners about approximately 300 polling stations where the Georgian Dream (GD) party applies manipulations and Georgia’s economic opportunities,” he said.

Levan Khabeishvili said the Ambassadors pledged readiness to observe the elections closely.

“High voter turnout is significant. We and our partners will be mobilized. The meeting was productive. Our mood is optimistic since our partners do not intend to leave Georgian people alone with Ivanishvili’s party,” he said.
