UNM Chair: U.S. Embassy's statement shows futility of GD's effort to recast Trump's greeting as official statement

“The U.S. Embassy’s statement demonstrates that Georgian Dream’s attempt to transform the White House’s protocol greeting into an official White House statement is entirely futile,” said Tina Bokuchava, Chair of the United National Movement (UNM) party.

She added that, unlike the State Department’s statement, which contained political messages, the U.S. Embassy did not endorse or share the statement in question.

“The statement from the U.S. Embassy confirms that a reset of relations with Ivanishvili’s regime is not feasible under the Trump Administration unless the regime meets the conditions set by the civilized world—its leader, the U.S.—and foremost, the Georgian people. These conditions include the release of all political prisoners and the organization of new, free, and fair parliamentary elections,” she said.

President Donald Trump of the United States sent a congratulatory letter to President Mikheil Kavelashvili on Georgia’s Independence Day. In the letter, published by the Georgian President’s press office, Trump emphasized his administration’s commitment to strengthening peaceful and productive relations with the Georgian government.

The U.S. Embassy in Georgia issued a statement indicating that, at the request of Secretary of State Rubio, Ambassador Dunnigan sought a meeting with Bidzina Ivanishvili on May 22. However, Ivanishvili declined to meet with the ambassador.
