“The central demand voiced during the debates in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) was the unconditional release of political prisoners and the organization of new, free parliamentary elections,” stated Tina Bokuchava, Chair of the United National Movement (UNM).

According to Bokuchava, the discussions in PACE served as yet another confirmation that the so-called “Russian Dream” remains isolated from the international community.

“This outcome is, among other factors, a testament to the efforts of Georgian democratic forces and, most importantly, the steadfast protests of the Georgian people.

The primary focus of the debates in PACE was the unconditional release of political prisoners and the holding of free, fair parliamentary elections. These demands are reflected in the PACE resolution, as the international community sees the only viable solution to Georgia’s acute political crisis in the release of political prisoners and the conduct of genuine elections,” she emphasized.
