The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Georgia reports that 12 thousand children do not go to school in the country. The UNICEF has launched a 2-year program in partnership with the government of Bulgaria for kids who are left beyond an educational institution.
The Georgian Ministry of Education is currently working on identification of the age-segment of those kids who lack schooling on an inter-institutional level. The pilot program will be introduced at 15 schools and 6 Day Centres at the initial stage.
“It is important that these children receive education at school since education is one of the fundamental rights together with other rights, and children must use this right,” Representative of UNICEF in Georgia Ghassan Khalil said.
In connection with the launch of the program, Ambassador Plenipotentiary of Bulgaria to Georgia, Representative of UNICEF in Georgia and representatives of Georgia’s Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports visited one of the pilot schools and a Day Centre in Tbilisi.
