Children turning six before November to be eligible to enter school
Children turning six before November to be eligible to enter school

Children who turn six before November 1 can enrol in first grade for the 2023–2024 school year, per a joint decision of Georgia’s Ministry of Education and Science and the Education and Science Committee and under the amendments to the Law on General Education.

Because of this, first-graders registration deadlines for the 2023–2024 school year have changed. Until May 19, 2023, registration for the second stage will be open to children whose siblings are studying in the desired school; the parent or trustee works with the selected public school; and at least two family members enrol in the first grade at the same time.

Children with special education needs who were unable to enrol in school within the first stage of registration will have the opportunity to do so on May 22–23, 2023.

Third-stage general registration will begin June 8 and end June 23.

The fourth stage will take place from July 17 to July 28. Students who didn’t register previously or want to amend their registration will have the opportunity to occupy vacant seats.

Children, who turn six before November 1, can also continue the preschool education and education services by enrolling in the school readiness program or enrolling as first graders.
