UN Resident Coordinator tells Georgian people: You can count on UN support
“In the early years of cooperation, the UN helped Georgia address challenges related to conflicts, economic difficulties, and the restoration of an independent state. Three decades later, Georgia is an upper-middle-income country, demonstrating strong economic growth, significant progress in poverty reduction and playing a key role in ensuring regional connectivity,” said Didier Trebucq, UN Resident Coordinator in Georgia, during his speech delivered at the signing ceremony of the 2026-2030 UN Sustainable Development Partnership Agreement between Georgia and the UN.
Didier Trebucq stressed that a new and significant stage begins in the Georgia-UN 30-year, long-term and comprehensive partnership amid “challenges of global uncertainties, divisions, conflicts, growing inequality and climate crisis.”
“The changing needs and growing capabilities of countries require a shift in UN approaches to supporting national development. The cooperation agreement we sign today represents a commitment which we share with the Georgian government and all partners to implement crucial reforms to accelerate progress to reach sustainable development goals,” he said.
As Didier Trebucq remarked, development requires partnership and joint actions with participation of the government, civic society, business, academic circles and international partners.
He explained that the cooperation agreement served as “an action platform for joint work,” outlining key priorities defined by the UN Agency Groups in Georgia in collaboration with the Georgian government, young people and all partners, having contributed with their initiatives, ideas and recommendations.
“We are ready to continue working with them inclusively to provide significant support for Georgia’s development,” he said.
The UN Resident Coordinator in Georgia extended gratitude to the Georgian Government Administration and sectoral ministries for their close cooperation in the process of the agreement’s development.
“I look forward to the successful implementation of the Sustainable Development Partnership Agreement in the next 5 years. It will be based on multilateral coordinated relations, solidarity and joint accountability over the use of potential. I would like to tell the Georgian people that they can count on UN support,” he concluded.
