UK government says recognition of Abkhazia, S. Ossetia is not acceptable
The government of the United Kingdom released a statement about recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, Georgia’s two occupied regions, as independent states by Syria.
“Georgia’s military intervention in 2008 and recognition of occupied territories as independent states afterwards is unacceptable violation of Georgia’s sovereign rights. Russia continues infringing Georgia’s legal territorial integrity. The UK reaffirms full support to Georgia’s state sovereignty and territorial integrity,” reads the statement of Alan Duncan, Foreign Minister.
Syria recognized independence of Georgia’s two occupied regions – Abkhazia and South Ossetia on May 29. Georgia launched procedures for suspension of diplomatic relations with Syria.
