UK Foreign Secretary visits Georgia

UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly has arrived in the Georgian capital Tbilisi. Deputy Foreign Minister Teimuraz Janjalia welcomed him at Tbilisi International Airport.

The parties reviewed the meetings and events planned within the framework of the two-day visit.

James Cleverly will meet with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and his Georgian counterpart Ilia Darchiashvili.

In addition, he will visit the occupation line and get a real-time update on the situation.

Earlier today, the British government said that the UK would ramp up its financial support to Moldova and Georgia, “as they continue to suffer from the destabilising impact of Putin’s illegal invasion of Ukraine.”

On a visit to the 2 countries (16 to 17 March), Foreign Secretary James Cleverly will announce an extra £10 million to support economic and governance reforms in Moldova, and new funding to strengthen the security of next year’s elections in Georgia, reads the official statement.
