Two Georgian citizens, who were illegally detained near the village of Mejvriskhevi in Gori Municipality on 16 September 2024, have been released and are now on territory controlled by the central government, the State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG) said.

According to the SSSG, the central government used every relevant tool at its disposal to secure their release from illegal detention, including the hotline run by the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM).

The Georgian side regularly raised questions about their unconditional release in the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) and at the Geneva International Discussions.

The central government, together with international partners, is continuing active efforts to secure the release of all Georgian citizens held illegally in the occupied territories.
