As a result of complex operational and investigative measures, officers of the Khelvachauri District Department of the Adjara Police and the Customs Department of the Revenue Service, under the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, arrested two individuals: M.A., a Ukrainian citizen born in 1980, and K.H., a Belarusian citizen born in 2000. They are charged with attempting to illegally purchase a large quantity of narcotic drugs as part of a group.
The offense is punishable by up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
The investigation revealed that the suspects were involved in a drug trafficking scheme. As part of the operation, law enforcement officers conducted a controlled delivery of a handbag shipped to Georgia from abroad. Following the delivery, M.A. and K.H. were arrested in Tbilisi.
During the search, police seized nearly half a kilogram of the drug methadone concealed in a helmet inside the handbag, along with a GPS device. The suspects had allegedly intended to acquire the drugs.
The investigation continues under Article 19-260 of the Criminal Code, concerning an attempt by a group to illegally purchase a particularly large quantity of narcotics in advance coordination.
