TV Imedi calls on the diplomatic missions accredited in Georgia “not to remain silent in the face of the ongoing large-scale attack and well-organized campaign against the Imedi journalists”.
As stated in the appeal, “the pressure and intimidation against the employees of the Imedi TV company by the radical opposition, as well as media and NGO organizations affiliated with them, has reached unacceptable levels.”
“Attempts to degrade journalists by labelling them as slaves, publicly displaying their photos on the central avenue of the city, tarnishing their reputation on social media, and using personal information to blackmail them, while also obstructing their journalistic work through organized groups, are nothing but Soviet, Bolshevik methods of fighting a different opinion. Such behaviour has no place in Western democracy or the civilized world.
The revanchist political force, now operating from the opposition side, funded by stolen funds from the Georgian people, the Georgian military, and European pensioners, is attempting to suppress different opinions once again. Despite owning and controlling four TV stations and numerous online media platforms, they have chosen to target Imedi and its employees. Regrettably, the non-governmental sector in the country has strayed from its core mission of safeguarding human rights, focusing instead on political agendas.
This campaign is orchestrated and financed by political entities rather than reflecting public sentiment. This is underscored by the trust and ratings that Imedi TV company has consistently enjoyed, as indicated by studies commissioned by international organizations.
We urge the diplomatic representatives of democratic countries accredited in Georgia not to remain silent in the face of the ongoing large-scale attack and well-organized campaign against Imedi and its journalists”, stated TV Imedi.
