Turkish President Erdoğan thanks Georgian PM for support, discusses search and rescue operation
The Turkish Presidential Administration has released information regarding a telephone conversation between the country’s President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and Georgia’s Prime Minister, Irakli Kobakhidze, concerning the crash of a Turkish military aircraft.
“The President of the Republic of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, held a telephone conversation with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze. During the call, they discussed the latest developments regarding the search and rescue operations for our military aircraft that crashed in Georgia.
The Georgian Prime Minister expressed his condolences to the President over our fallen servicemen. During the telephone conversation, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan thanked Irakli Kobakhidze for his condolences and support,” the statement noted.
A Turkish military aircraft crashed in Sighnaghi municipality, approximately 5 kilometres from Georgia’s state border. The plane was conducting a flight on the Azerbaijan-Türkiye route.
An investigation into the incident is underway under Article 275, Part 4 of the Criminal Code, which covers violations of air transport safety or operational regulations resulting in loss of life or injury.
The Turkish Defence Ministry states that 20 military personnel were aboard the crashed Turkish aircraft.
