Turkish Ambassador commends all political actors for reaching consensus that is essence of democracy
“I would like to commend all the political actors for being able to come to a conclusion, a consensus which is in the essence of democracy,” Turkish Ambassador to Georgia, Fatma Ceren Yazgan, told GPB having echoed the signing of the EU-mediated compromise paper between the ruling and opposition parties in Georgia.
According to her, the EU and US Ambassador have put very good efforts and examples of these facilitation and mediation efforts.
“I think that has been a very good result. Of course, we could have seen this result in Georgia a little bit earlier. I would like to commend the efforts of my colleague Ambassadors of the EU and the United States, who have put very good efforts and examples of these mediation and facilitation efforts.
I would like to commend all the political actors for being able to come to a conclusion, a consensus that is the essence of democracy. I think this has been very important for the belief of the Georgian people in the system, that the system of democracy works,” the Turkish Ambassador stated.
According to Fatma Ceren Yazgan, democracy cannot be perfect, and all democracies have deficits and problems, but there is no better alternative for this model.
“It is the best model we have in terms of governance. We are talking about sovereignty, territorial integrity, I think the best protection of these two concepts, our nations, our interests is about the legitimacy of our decision-making, which is democracy. So, I congratulate all actors who have contributed to this process and look forward to the development of democratic institutions, traditions and culture to develop in the region and, of course, in Georgia. Democracy is a culture, it is not only about the ballot. I think we are all in this together,” the Ambassador concluded.
