Trial of Anatoly Berdzenishvili detained for assisting Akhmed Chatayev to be held

The trial of Anatoly Berdzenishvili, citizen of Georgia, detained by Counter-terrorist Department of State Security Service, will be held today.

According to the available information, the investigation has established that the detainee arrived in Turkey to assist Akhmed Chatayev and his group members. The detainee, along with Zurab Gornakashvili and Zurab Idoidze, helped Akhmed Chatayev and his group members to move to the Turkish-Georgian border.

The investigation is underway under Article 331 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which pertains to financing terrorism, providing other material support or resources for terrorist activities, which has resulted in serious consequences. The crime is punished by jail term from 17 to 20 years or life imprisonment.

Anatoly Berdzenishvili does not plead guilty. Sister of the detainee claims that Berdzenishvili did not personally know Akhmed Chatayev but was a friend of Khizri Margoshvili.
