Journalists and media managers of the Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) undergo online training on topic of Constructive News. The founder and head of independent Constructive Institute in Aarhus, Ulrik Haagerup, leads the course. He will give a 2-day workshop in September at the GPB after the online seminar. The GPB journalists will undergo training in Denmark.
Constructive news is a new approach to be used by the Georgian Public Broadcaster, said Tinatin Berdzenishvili, GPB General Director.
“Everybody wants progress but nobody wants change. The course has to do with this change and practicing such journalism at the Public Broadcasting that the whole world chooses. This is an absolutely different approach and I believe that we are on the right way,” GPB General Director claimed.
Ulrik Haagerup is the author of the book Constructive News: How to save the media and democracy with journalism of tomorrow. Constructive news challenges the traditional concepts and thinking of the news media. It shows the consequences media negativity has on the audience, public discourse, the press and democracy as a whole.
The book also explores ways to change old news habits and provides hands-on guidelines on how to do so. Moreover, the book presents numerous examples from the author’s ten-year tenure as executive director of news at the Danish Broadcasting Corporation where he led a successful paradigm shift in news production. Constructive News is a wake-up call for a media world that struggles for a future, as well as an inspirational handbook on the next mega-trend in journalism.
