Timeframe for summarizing election results to be reduced from 26 to 15 days

The timeframe for summarizing election results will be reduced from 26 to 15 days based on an amendment proposed to the Election Code and submitted to the parliamentary Bureau on November 2.

Under the draft law, District Election Commissions will no longer be required to identify, by means of random selection, up to five polling stations and recount the voting results, no later than the sixth day following the day of voting.

Also, instead of the district commissions, the Central Election Commission (CEC) will summarize the final results of the elections for municipal councils and mayors, and will itself issue the summary protocol.

The draft specifies that the term of office for the newly elected City Assembly (Sakrebulo), its members, and mayors will commence on the 9th day, rather than the 14th day, following the publication of the summary protocol of the election results.

The draft law also addresses the timeline for submitting reports to the State Audit Office regarding funds used from the day of the election date announcement up to and including the day of voting.

Under the amendments, an entity that, according to preliminary data, secures the number of votes required by law in the election shall submit the specified report by the 12th day following the day of voting, instead of by the 5th day.
