TI - Georgia: 53% of respondents think that judicial system is under influence of ruling party

The 53% of respondents think that judicial system is under the influence of the ruling party, while 50% think that the court is not fair – says the survey conducted by “Transparency International – Georgia.”

According to the survey, 43% of the interviewees think that there is an influential group of judges – “clan” in the judiciary. 87% of them believe that the “clan” of judges enjoys the support of the current government, while 94% think that members of the “clan” of judges should leave the judiciary.

According to the survey, 83% of the population thinks that there is no place in the court for people, who used to make unfair decisions as a result of pressure in the past.

Under conditions where the trust of the judicial system is low, 46% of the population thinks that the court must be staffed by completely new judges in order to increase confidence, and 41% believe that the government must not interfere with the functions of the judiciary.

The survey, ordered by “Transparency International – Georgia”, was conducted by the Caucasus Research Resource Center (CRRC) in the period from February 20 to March 5, 2019. 2, 087 respondents were interviewed throughout Georgia, and the margin of error for the responses is on average 2.3%.
