Thierry Mariani: You dream of toppling Georgian government because it protects its Constitutional order, resisting all attempts of destabilization coming from either Russia or Europe

“For months now, Georgia has been subjected to unprecedented media pressure on the part of European institutions. These attacks call into question the legitimacy of Tbilisi institutions, its judiciary, as well as the sovereign choice of Georgian voters,” said MEP Thierry Mariani in the European Parliament during the debates on Deepening Democratic Crisis in Georgia.

According to the MEP, this is interference on the party of foreign NGOs and networks and their concerns being related to the European Parliament.

“If I understand you correctly, you announced that 24 million has been given in recent months to support such organizations and it is quite true to say that you dream here of toppling the Georgian government because it will not keep the admonishments of the European Commission, and you accuse it of doing wrong things since it protects its Constitutional order resisting all attempts of destabilization coming from either Russia or Europe.

And at the end, if you look closely, who is seeking to aggravate the democratic crisis? I think you would do better to look for culprits in Brussels. I mean, look at Romania, where presidential elections were simply cancelled on a disputable basis and this might be the case in France, where leading contenders are banned from running,” he said.
