Tengo Tevzadze: Words are not enough; UNM must step up and take political responsibility within Opposition Alliance
“The United National Movement must decide for itself whether it is part of this alliance or not. It appears they still have internal party matters to resolve, and they will need to provide an answer to this question within a reasonable timeframe,” stated Tengo Tevzadze, a member of the Opposition Alliance.
According to Tevzadze, the United National Movement did not take an active part in organising the May 26 rally.
“The alliance must be effective. Following the successful rally on May 26, we unfortunately experienced a lull and a period of turbulence. However, some of the parties continued their campaigns across Tbilisi and the regions. The alliance must now move forward with a united front to transition into the second phase of our mobilisation campaign.
As for the United National Movement, they must decide for themselves whether they are in the alliance or not. It appears they still have internal party matters to iron out first, and they will, of course, have to answer this question within a reasonable timeframe. The truth of the matter is that the United National Movement did not play an active role in organising the May 26 rally. They may have been involved in various peripheral matters, but they were not actively engaged in the core organisation.
In my view, who was active and who was not is now in the past; what matters now is future cooperation. If the United National Movement intends to be a part of the alliance, they need to say so. However, words alone are not enough; they must be fully engaged and take real political responsibility for the alliance’s activities,” Tevzadze stated.
