Tender launched for supervision of Georgia-Turkiye connecting tunnel construction
The Roads Department of Georgia’s Ministry of Infrastructure has announced an international tender for the supervision of the Batumi-Sarpi highway construction project.
According to an official statement of the Ministry of Infrastructure, the project is a crucial strategic transport corridor, reinforcing Georgia’s position as a key transit nation at the crossroads of Europe and Asia.
“The objective of this tender is to ensure the efficient and high-quality realisation of the Batumi-Sarpi road project. This corridor will enhance Georgia’s role as an important transit hub, linking the Black Sea coast with Turkiye. The tender involves hiring a construction supervision consultant.
The Batumi-Sarpi project connects the newly constructed Batumi bypass with the Turkish border at Sarpi. It includes expressway junctions near Batumi Airport, a customs zone, as well as resorts and settlements along the Black Sea coast. Spanning a total length of 11 kilometres, the project features a 7.6 km tunnel, a 1.47 km bridge, two interchanges, coastal and river protection works, fortifications, and additional infrastructure,” the tender notice states.
The project is being co-financed by a loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the state budget. The supervision services are expected to be carried out over a period of 48 months. Interested companies should submit their proposals in English via the Asian Development Bank’s website no later than 22 September 2025. The estimated cost of the supervision contract is USD 13,986,483.
The 11.3 km Batumi-Sarpi road is a vital segment of the East-West Highway, which will connect the Batumi bypass with the Georgian border and link to Turkiye, boosting regional connectivity and economic development,” the Ministry of Infrastructure stated.
