Tbilisi Sakrebulo Chair: Our decisions secured increased budget for social programmes, roads, and transport
“Tbilisi demands more attention, work, and responsibility from us every day. I’m confident that together, with respect for differing opinions and loyalty to our common goal, we will overcome every problem,” Tbilisi Sakrebulo (City Council) Chairman Zurab Abasidze stated at the council’s final session of the current year.
The council chairman summed up the year 2025 and thanked Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, Deputy Mayor Giorgi Tkemaladze, and council members for their work.
According to Zurab Abasidze, “work on various topics was often accompanied by sharp questions, differing positions, and heated debates, but the starting point was always the interests of Tbilisi residents.”
“Today we’re holding the final session of 2025, and I want to present something of a report to you. When I’m in this chamber, it’s important to me not only to list achievements, but also to share with you the responsibility and emotion that accompany membership of our capital city’s council.
In 2025, both the previous and current convocations of the council held 17 sessions in this very chamber, during which we addressed 730 issues related to the city’s budget, social support, infrastructure, urban development, and local governance. Behind each matter were specific individuals, districts, neighbourhoods, and particular problems waiting to be resolved.
Together, we made decisions that provided Tbilisi with a larger budget, more resources for social programmes, and greater capacity to improve roads, courtyards, schools, municipal transport, and kindergartens. These discussions were not easy; there were frequent disagreements, probing questions, and passionate debates, but always with one goal, which was the interests of Tbilisi residents. Thank you to each deputy for their engagement, criticism, support, and for the work that is often unseen but vital for the city,” stated the council chairman.
Zurab Abasidze expressed particular gratitude to the council staff, committees, and personnel, emphasising that the work could not have been accomplished without them.
