Tbilisi Mayor: We fight for European future and values, while European bureaucracy has abandoned them

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has strongly condemned MEP Krzysztof Brejza’s statement, describing it as offensive to claim that the former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili is being detained on fabricated charges.

In an interview with the media, Kaladze explained that such remarks demonstrate that European bureaucracy is now entirely devoid of European values.

“Such statements are deeply serious and offensive. First and foremost, they cast a shadow over our European aspirations. These facts reveal the true state of affairs within the European bureaucracy. Brejza’s comments are also a stark example of how labels are often applied indiscriminately. This is not an isolated incident; we have seen similar resolutions passed, even concerning Mikheil Saakashvili. External influences and lobbying drive these actions. In reality, there has been a quid pro quo. Such practices are unthinkable. What are we fighting for when we speak of a European future and its core values? Unfortunately, the European bureaucracy has abandoned these principles,” Kaladze remarked.
