Tbilisi Mayor warns that UNM lobbying contract to harm Georgia through lies and slander
“The contract with the lobbying company associated with the United National Movement will also be aimed against the country; they will resort to lies and slander,” stated Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze.
According to him, similar lobbying firms have a history of spreading falsehoods and attacking the Georgian state.
“This is not the first time. We frequently come across documents of this nature. That’s precisely why transparency is so important, so the public can have access to everything. It was through the FARA documents that we discovered Wilson receives USD 80,000 for spreading lies and undermining the Georgian state. With the FARA documents, we also learned how Members of the European Parliament were bribed to pass resolutions of the kind we have seen in recent months and years. The new contract will also be directed against the country; they will continue to engage in lies and slander,” Kaladze emphasised.
According to a new document registered with the U.S. Department of Justice, the United National Movement opposition party has signed a contract with a lobbying firm in America.
The United National Movement entered into an agreement with Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP on July 7, paying USD 360,000 for six months of services. This sum covers all expenses except travel costs, which must be agreed in advance.
According to the document, the hired firm’s obligations include protecting the party’s interests before the United States government, particularly promoting democratic processes and free elections in Georgia. The document states that the company plans to support the party’s diplomatic activities and deepen relations with the U.S. authorities.
