Tbilisi Mayor: Revolution NGO scheme uncovered; funds now channelled through universities; law will prevail

“The fact that Giorgi Bachiashvili [former head of the Co-Investment Fund] is financing the protests is not news. He has been involved in political processes from the very beginning,” stated Kakha Kaladze, the incumbent Tbilisi Mayor, when speaking to the media.

Kaladze further explained that the information circulated by the Imedis Kvira programme, claiming that the protest rallies are being financed by the University of Georgia and former Co-Investment Fund head Giorgi Bachiashvili, is not news to him.

“The scheme to organise revolutions through NGOs and to divide society has been entirely unravelled. Now, they have begun channelling funds through higher education institutions, but everything will be thoroughly investigated, and an appropriate response will be provided within the framework of the law. The fact that Giorgi Bachiashvili is financing the rallies is no secret, and he has not denied it. He has been involved in political processes from the outset, attempting to conceal his crime,” Kaladze said.

Regarding the opposition’s plans and their claims of a so-called peaceful overthrow of the government, the Tbilisi mayor stated, “Nothing will happen on October 4. The only event will be the celebration of the victory of Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia. This will be a victory for our country and our people.”
