Tbilisi Mayor promises Ameri Football Centre to reclaim its glory as premier sporting venue

Tbilisi Municipality has launched a procurement process and purchased the design documentation required to initiate the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Ameri Stadium, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze announced during today’s municipal government meeting.

According to the Mayor, this project is of paramount importance both to the Gldani district and the wider football community, fulfilling a key pre-election pledge.

“At the initiative of Tbilisi City Hall, comprehensive reconstruction works are planned for the football pitches located on Tianeti Highway (No. 37a) in the Gldani district, the site of the former Ameri Stadium, where the infrastructure had fallen into a state of utter ruin and neglect. We promised the local community that a modern football centre would be built here. Delivering a high-calibre project on this site is vital; for years, countless children have been trained at this stadium, yet its current condition is simply indefensible,” Kaladze said.

The Mayor added that a tender for the physical construction works would be issued in the near future.

“We have already completed the tender for the design phase. With the blueprints finalised shortly, we will soon launch the construction tender. The project entails the complete overhaul of two 11-a-side pitches to FIFA standards, a total rejuvenation of the grounds, and the rehabilitation of the existing 7-a-side pitch. To support these facilities, a new building will be constructed, housing changing rooms, toilets, showers, storage areas, administrative offices, and all necessary amenities to ensure the seamless operation of the football centre,” the Mayor explained.

Kakha Kaladze promised residents that the Ameri Football Centre would fully reclaim its former sporting legacy.

“This development is immensely important for Gldani and the footballing world. I give you my word that the Ameri Football Centre will reclaim its glory and stand as one of our finest sporting venues. We have already delivered several exciting projects in partnership with the Football Federation, such as the Avaza Football Centre. Under the previous administration, that land was privatised for commercial development, but we successfully reclaimed it for the municipality through a land-swap agreement. Today, it is a world-class sports facility. We will do the same for the Ameri Stadium,” the Mayor concluded.
