Tbilisi Mayor: It was clear from outset that opposition unity was doomed to failure

According to Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, the Opposition Alliance, which shares no common values whatsoever, was doomed to failure from the very beginning.

“It was clear from the outset that this unity, which was announced to us with great fanfare, was doomed to failure, to collapse. How can there be any unity among people who share no values whatsoever? It is nothing more than a scramble to seize some position or other by any means possible. What came together were precisely those politicians and political parties that enjoy no trust or support within society. This is no coincidence, and it has its own explanation: when you serve another country, when you carry the interests of another country, when you have superiors abroad, the people place no trust in you, and naturally, you will be a failure in politics. That is the reality of today,” declared Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze.

As for the positions of the parties, Lelo for Georgia and Gakharia for Georgia, in the Mayor’s assessment, in reality, no “red lines” exist for them at all.

“In reality, there are no ‘red lines,’ they confine themselves to statements alone. What ‘red lines’ can one speak of when, for example, Gakharia’s party is in a direct alliance and collaboration with the United National Movement? I can name specific districts where they have joined forces at the level of local assemblies. There are no ‘red lines’; what truly matters is what their superiors tell them and the instructions they receive. They do not even have the right to answer back; they are obliged to do whatever they are told from outside,” noted the Mayor.

Kaladze further emphasised that a political force serving another country’s interests cannot be trusted or supported by society.

“How can you enjoy the trust of society when you are a traitor, when you have absolutely no interest in the fate of your own country and do not defend your country’s interests? How can such people or political groupings have the support of society? Whenever something bad happens in the country, they support it all; we know where these externally imposed processes come from, and they are part of them. They are ready to fulfil any instruction at the drop of a hat. It is clear that the Georgian people see all of this perfectly well, analyse it and draw their own conclusions,” declared Kakha Kaladze.
