Tbilisi Mayor: Elections are for changing government; Georgian people must decide whom they trust with country’s fate

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has stated that the kind of violent actions that took place on October 4 to overthrow the government are categorically unacceptable.

According to Kaladze, it is irrelevant who was involved in the process.

“The public saw very clearly the violence that occurred on October 4, and it did not just begin on that day. For months, a campaign had been underway showing that they were preparing for a coup d’état. The campaign continued, demonstrating that they were preparing to topple the government and orchestrate a revolution. Then, on October 4, they sought to put this into action and took concrete steps, rushing the Presidential Palace, tearing down the fence, and attempting to storm the building, though the relevant agencies responded promptly.

These types of actions are categorically unacceptable, regardless of who is behind them; it makes absolutely no difference. If anyone wants to change the government, that is what elections are for, and the Georgian people must decide who will be in government tomorrow and whom they trust with the country’s fate,” Kakha Kaladze said.
