Tbilisi Court of Appeal upholds 11-year sentence for former Co-Investment Fund Head Giorgi Bachiashvili
The Tbilisi Court of Appeal, presided over by Judge Paata Silagadze, has upheld the initial verdict, convicting former Co-Investment Fund Head Giorgi Bachiashvili of misappropriating significant funds and laundering illicit income, thereby confirming his eleven-year prison sentence.
The Tbilisi City Court sentenced Giorgi Bachiashvili to 11 years in prison for embezzling cryptocurrency from Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder of the Georgian Dream, in March 2025.
The Prosecutor’s Office accuses the former head of the Co-Investment Fund of embezzling USD 39 million from Bidzina Ivanishvili, founder of the Georgian Dream party. It alleges that in summer 2015, Bachiashvili invested in cryptocurrency mining, using funds personally mobilised and transferred by Ivanishvili, but failed to return the owed amount.
