Tbilisi Court keeps eight persons in detention on charges of group violence
Tbilisi City Court has ruled to keep eight individuals in pre-trial detention who were arrested on charges of organizing, leading and participating in group violence.
The detained individuals are Zviad Tsetskhladze, Vasil Kadzelashvili, Vepkhia Kasradze, Irakli Miminoshvili, Insaf Aliev, Tornike Goshadze, Nikoloz Javakhishvili and Giorgi Giorgadze.
Prosecutor Vazha Todua noted that the defence failed to present any new circumstances during today’s hearing that would affect the preventive measures applied to the accused.
During the session, one of the defendants, Vepkhia Kasradze, declared that “what is happening in this courtroom today is evil.” He also addressed the Patriarch.
“I want to appeal to my Patriarch with a significant request – please send your representatives to attend our court hearings. Where should we hide? Who should I hide from? I had that opportunity but didn’t use it. What would I be running from? When I am innocent, why should I hide? It is enough suffering that I am being punished without guilt,” said Vepkhia Kasradze.
In parallel with the proceedings, supporters gathered outside the courthouse to show solidarity with the detained individuals.
