Tbilisi City Hall to fund expensive rheumatoid arthritis medication starting September 1
Tbilisi City Hall announced at the municipal government meeting that, beginning September 1, it will cover the cost of the costly medication Actemra for the treatment of Rheumatoid arthritis.
Mayor Kakha Kaladze emphasized that financing expensive medicines was a key pre-election pledge to the citizens.
According to the Mayor, socially vulnerable individuals registered in the database with a rating not exceeding 150,000 points will receive Actemra fully subsidized. Others in need will benefit from an 80% co-financing arrangement provided by the City Hall. Citizens are advised to apply through the Health Ministry and Municipal Social Services to obtain vouchers.
“Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic, progressive autoimmune disease characterized by joint inflammation, deformation, and ultimately, limited mobility. Proper medication can halt disease progression and induce remission. Beneficiaries of this program will remain capable of working, avoid further complications, and experience a significant improvement in their quality of life,” said Kakha Kaladze.
