Tbilisi Airport seizes up to 20 kilograms of cannabis as foreign national is detained
Following a joint operation and thorough investigative efforts, officers from the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in collaboration with the Customs Department of the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance, apprehended a foreign national born in 1988 on suspicion of drug trafficking.
He faces charges of illegal possession and storage of a particularly large quantity of narcotics, as well as the illicit importation of a substantial amount of cannabis into Georgia.
This crime carries a possible penalty of up to 20 years’ imprisonment, or life imprisonment in the most severe cases.
During a search at Tbilisi International Airport, law enforcement officers uncovered 19.4 kilograms of cannabis, neatly packed into 34 separate packages, which have been seized as evidence.
The investigation is ongoing under Article 260, Part 3, Subparagraph “a”, and Article 262, Part 4, Subparagraph “a” of the Criminal Code.
