A meeting of the Task Force took place in the Guria region, attended by Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs Vakhtang Gomelauri, along with representatives from the Cabinet and various agencies, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) reported.
The meeting focused on assessing the ongoing efforts to resolve issues caused by heavy snowfall in Guria and determining further action.
“The discussion centred on the basic needs of the local population, the challenges presented by the snowfall, and effective, timely solutions,” stated the Ministry.
Currently, 80% of the roads in the Ozurgeti municipality have been cleared of snow. Efforts to restore utility services have successfully brought electricity back to an additional 5,000 subscribers in the Guria region, while approximately 800 more have been provided with natural gas.
Various units of the Interior Ministry, including firefighters working alongside defence forces and other agencies, continue to operate in emergency mode due to the severe weather conditions in western Georgia.
Six local headquarters of the Emergency Management Service have been established in the Guria region to address problems arising from the heavy snowfall, where reports are received and appropriate responses are coordinated.
Firefighters, along with police forces and representatives from other agencies, have been assisting citizens during these challenging meteorological conditions, according to the MIA’s report.
