Kakha Kaladze meets Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Michel Buskila

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has met with Israel’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Michel Buskila, who is currently paying an official visit to Georgia.

According to Tbilisi City Hall, the two sides discussed prospects for further deepening the friendly relations and strategic partnership between Georgia and Israel. Particular emphasis was placed on the twinned status of Tbilisi and Jerusalem and their deep historical and cultural ties, with both parties expressing confidence that bilateral cooperation will grow even closer in the future.

“We deeply treasure and cherish the 26-century-long history of our friendship. Just as it was centuries ago, the bond between the Georgian and Jewish peoples remains extraordinary today. We stand fully ready for partnership, and Georgia has repeatedly demonstrated through deeds that it is a reliable ally. We closely monitor developments in the Middle East and welcome every step and effort directed towards peace.

As you know, Georgia is also situated in a complex region; therefore, our primary objective is the steadfast defence of Georgia’s national interests, ensuring we do not become a pawn in the conflicts of major powers. I am delighted by your visit to our capital and hope you will visit Tbilisi again with your family in the near future,” Kakha Kaladze stated.

For his part, Michel Buskila affirmed that Israel firmly supports Georgia’s territorial integrity and welcomes all measures aimed at strengthening and developing the country.

“I wish to convey a direct message from our country and Prime Minister that we support the territorial integrity of Georgia. I am confident that your nation will continue to flourish. I see vast potential for deepening the healthy relationship between the Israeli and Georgian peoples. Our citizens hold Georgia in high regard; many travel here as tourists and feel completely safe. Furthermore, there is considerable interest in commercial investment, as doing business here is straightforward and investments are well-protected,” Michel Buskila declared.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Israel to Georgia, Waleed Abu Haya, also attended the introductory meeting.
