MP Levan Machavariani: Opposition acts as enemies, stoking artificial enmity to prevent restoration of Georgia’s territorial integrity

“Reunifying the nation and reconciling with our Abkhazian and Ossetian brothers and sisters is our primary national objective; we must live in a united Georgia, and that outcome is inevitable,” Georgian Dream MP Levan Machavariani has stated.

According to Machavariani, whenever the opposition witnesses concrete steps, most recently the delivery of fuel to occupied Abkhazia for humanitarian purposes, they redouble their efforts to inflame the animosity that has been artificially maintained for decades.

“Saakashvili’s statement was by no means accidental. It was preceded by a well-orchestrated campaign, beginning with Baramidze’s treasonous claim accusing Georgians of committing war crimes. Then came Gvaramia’s assertion that this is somehow a trauma we ought to discard, which Ms Samadashvili echoed before Saakashvili tied the whole narrative together.

These people are enemies; they want this strife to be artificially stoked so that Georgia is deprived of any possibility of restoring its territorial integrity. Their past actions speak volumes, particularly when they handed over territories to the occupier. This did not begin in 2008; it started in 2006, when they conducted so-called parallel elections in so-called South Ossetia, thereby legitimising the separatists’ illegal vote. They subsequently abolished the treason clause in the criminal code and reinstated the so-called borders that had been scrapped under Zviad Gamsakhurdia. This chronicle of betrayal was meticulously planned, beginning two years before they plunged Georgia into such dire trouble,” Levan Machavariani declared.
