Tamta Kimbarishvili appointed to lead MIA's new Hate Speech Division

Tamta Kimbarishvili has been appointed to head the newly established Hate Speech Division within the Human Rights Protection Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).

Speaking about the initiative, Kimbarishvili explained that the division will be responsible for identifying alleged legal violations and their perpetrators.

“The role of the department is to monitor and proactively detect statements that contain insulting, degrading, or hate speech, which are publicly circulated via social media or in the press and may constitute an administrative offence under the Code of Administrative Offences of Georgia. The department will identify any alleged offence and offender, gather relevant materials for administrative proceedings, draw up offence protocols, and, in accordance with procedural rules, submit these materials to the general courts,” Kimbarishvili stated.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs officially launched the new department dedicated to combating hate speech today.
