Tamar Chugoshvili – We should not admit precedent that country, which rejects commitments, is specially treated
“We should not admit the precedent that the country, which rejects commitments of the Council of Europe, is specially treated,” First Deputy Chairwoman of the Georgian Parliament Tamar Chugoshvili said in a speech delivered before the autumn session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).
The PACE is discussing a resolution that envisages making changes in the organization’s General Regulations. The majority of deputies think that Russia should be lifted sanctions. Chugoshvili said she believed that such an approach should not be admitted and that the PACE mush seek for another way out of the deadlock.
“The document’s author tried to present a balanced document thought it is still disputable. We are trying to find a compromise. However, this compromise is one-sided. . . . Russia shall fulfill the commitments assumed towards both Ukraine and Georgia and if it does, only then we can speak about the annulment of the sanctions but not annulment of the sanction mechanism,” Chugoshvili said.
