Tea Akhvlediani, State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality, met Cihan Sultanoğlu, the UN Representative of the Geneva İnternational Discussions (GID). At the meeting, the sides spoke about the UN’s involvement in responding to humanitarian needs and the role of the GID in the peaceful resolution of conflict.
Speaking about humanitarian needs, the State Minister stressed the grave consequences of illegal occupation of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions, gross violations of human and fundamental rights of locals, unlawful detentions, ethnic discrimination, restrictions to free movement and education, and installation of artificial barriers along the Administrative Boundary Line (ABL).
Tea Akhvlediani highlighted the need to continue the GID format to ensure the release of abducted locals and the punishment of those responsible for killing Georgian citizens. The State Minister familiarized the guest with the government’s peace plan and the vision of how to build trust between the artificially divided communities and improve socioeconomic conditions based on common interests.
The UN representative to the GID positively assessed the Georgian government’s efforts in the peace process. The parties agreed to continue close cooperation.
