State Minister engages with UN Regional Director to discuss cooperation and human rights

Tea Akhvlediani, the Georgian State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality, met with Gwi Yeop Son, the Regional Director of the UN Development Cooperation Office for Europe and Central Asia.

The State Minister expressed her gratitude to the UN Regional Director for the steadfast support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within internationally recognized borders, as well as for the UN’s role in the peaceful resolution of conflicts.

During their discussion, she highlighted the humanitarian and human rights situation in the occupied regions, emphasizing the importance of international efforts to safeguard the fundamental rights of the conflict-affected population and to secure the release of unlawfully detained Georgian citizens.

Minister Akhvlediani also introduced the UN Regional Director to the Georgian government’s peace initiative, Step to a Better Future, which aims to improve the socio-economic conditions of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and to restore trust between communities that have been artificially divided.

The UN Regional Director committed to collaborating with the State Minister’s Office.
