State Minister Akhvlediani holds introductory meeting with newly appointed Swiss Ambassador

The State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality, Tea Akhvlediani, has held an inaugural meeting with the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Swiss Confederation to Georgia, Fabienne Wassermann.

The State Minister thanked the Swiss diplomat for Switzerland’s steadfast support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders.

During the discussion, the two parties reviewed priority areas of cooperation falling within the remit of the Office of the State Minister, focusing on deepening engagement with the Swiss Embassy.

Akhvlediani briefed Ambassador Wassermann on the strategic priorities, recent achievements, and long-term vision governing both pillars of her portfolio: reconciliation and engagement policy, alongside civic equality and integration policy.

The State Minister provided a detailed overview of the severe human rights and humanitarian situation across Georgia’s occupied regions. She highlighted the government’s reconciliation and engagement strategy, including the peace initiative “A Step to a Better Future,” designed to alleviate socio-economic conditions for populations affected by conflict, foster trust, and deepen cooperation based on shared interests across artificially divided communities.

In response, Swiss Ambassador Fabienne Wassermann voiced full support for the State Minister’s Office’s work and reaffirmed Switzerland’s readiness for close future collaboration.

Both parties concluded the meeting by agreeing to maintain active bilateral dialogue and institutional cooperation.
