SSSG: Tamar Mearakishvili released through intensive dialogue within framework of existing negotiation formats

“Tamar Mearakishvili has been released through intensive dialogue within the framework of existing negotiation formats,” the State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG) said, confirming that the Georgian citizen had been brought to the territory controlled by the central government.

“Co-Chairs of the Geneva International Discussions (GID) were actively involved in the process, keeping permanent communication via the hotline of the European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) in Georgia.

The Georgian government and the SSSG, with all available resources, continue efforts to release all unlawfully detained Georgian citizens,” the SSSG said.

Tamar Mearakishvili was arrested on December 23 on fabricated charges of espionage.

On December 24, a so-called court in occupied Tskhinvali sentenced her to two months’ detention as a preventive measure.
