SSSG detains 5 individuals on corruption charges, launches criminal proceedings against 14 in connection with same crimes

“Officers of the Anti-Corruption Agency of the State Security Service of Georgia (SSG), through anti-corruption large-scale activities conducted in different regions of Georgia, on December 5, detained 5 individuals on 6 different cases,” Anti-Corruption Agency Director Emzar Gagnidze announced at the briefing.

According to Ganidze, criminal charges are brought against 14 individuals in total.

First Case: A School Principal of 4th Public School in Marneuli is detained on taking a bribe from a citizen in the amount of USD 3 thousand for issuing a school graduation sertificate without passing exams. This individual faces 6-9 years in prison if convicted.

Second Case: An employee of the Shuakhevi Municipality is detained who demanded a bribe in the amount of USD 2 thousand from a citizen in return for producing an ingineering-geologic document for the Eco-Migrants Accomodation Program.

Third Case: Three citizens are detained in Tbilisi and Sagarejo over participation in tenders with counterfeit documents involving Horizon 23 and Architravi companies. The detainees face up to 3 years’ imprisonment.

Fourth Case: The director of LLC “Logi”, the director of LLC “S.K. 2000” and the technical supervisor of the “Tbilisi Municipal Laboratory” are detained over concluding a state procurement agreement on the arrangement of an external sewage system in Mukhiani 2 settlement of the Gldani district.

Fifth Case: Former employee of the Adjara Autonomous Republic’s Supreme Council is detained on corruption charges in connection with demanding a bribe in the amount of USD 3 thousand from a citizen in return for giving on lease two land plots in the state ownership located on the territory of Davit Aghmashenebeli Avenue and Tamar Mepe Street.

Sixth Case: Former representative of the Ozurgeti City Hall is detained on bribery charge over the use of a land plot in Natanebi village without a permit.

“The Anti-Corruption Agency continues to work intensively to detect and prevent any form of corruption. The agency warns anyone who may be plotting participation in any type of corruption crimes to think carefully before making such a decision, since we will do our best to reduce corruption and make Georgia one of the leading countries in the fight against corruption,” said Emzar Gagnidze.
