SSSG arrests 4 individuals in connection with corruption, launches criminal proceedings against 11 people

“Officers of the Anti-Corruption Agency of the State Security Service of Georgia (SSG), through anti-corruption large-scale activities conducted in different regions of Georgia, on December 27, detained 4 individuals on 4 different cases,” Anti-Corruption Agency Director Emzar Gagnidze announced at the briefing.

According to Ganidze, criminal charges are brought against 11 individuals in total.

First Case concerns swindling through the production and use of official documents, a criminal charge is brought against the owner and director of Cross Point company and 2 other individuals. The charge envisages from 6 to 9 years in prison.

Second Case: Officers of the National Food Agency of the Ksani Municipality are detained on bribery charges. They face up to 9 years’ imprisonment.

Third Case: One individual is detained in Tbilisi for selling counterfeit 7000 USD to a citizen. If convicted, the individual will be imprisoned for a 7 to 10-year term.

Fourth Case: The Director of New Passage LTD is detained in Chkhorotsku Municipality of the Samegrelo region on swindling charges.

Within ongoing covert investigative activities, audio and video evidence is obtained.

“The Anti-Corruption Agency continues to work intensively to detect and prevent any form of corruption. The agency warns anyone who may be plotting participation in any type of corruption crimes with the aim to damage the state and public interests through their private corruptive scams that we have the will and resources to thoroughly investigate all corruptive deals to prevent corruption. We call on them to draw conclusions from our taken measures and think carefully before making such a move,” he said.
