Special Investigation Service investigates facts of illegal interference with journalists during elections

The Special Investigation Service of Georgia is investigating potential illegal interference with journalists’ professional activities during the October 26, 2024 elections.

“This inquiry is based on reports from the media ombudsman, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and a hotline for public complaints, concerning 17 incidents involving journalists across various regions.

13 of these incidents were found not to contain criminal elements. However, investigators have reached out to journalists and cameramen multiple times for further information, resulting in five journalists and one cameraman cooperating with the investigation.

The Special Investigation Service is actively conducting all necessary investigative and procedural actions related to these incidents,” the agency stated.
