Speaker views EP as reincarnation of Soviet Union' Congress

“The European Parliament represents a reincarnation of the Soviet Union’s Congress of Public Deputies,” said Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.

According to the Speaker, Georgia has nothing in common with people distinguished by the Soviet mentality and fascist statements.

Shalva Papuashvili further stated that the European Union must qualitatively change so that the Georgian Parliament can have some kind of relationship with it.

“We see that we have less and less to talk to these people. We are on opposite poles in terms of values. The European Parliament represents a reincarnation of the Soviet Union’s Congress of Public Deputies with aesthetics, the Russian accent of Rasa Juknevičienė, and we believe that, as a European and democratic country, there is a value gap between us. We have nothing in common with the value mess taking place in the European Parliament today, and we will never have anything in common.

The European Union must qualitatively change so that the Georgian Parliament and Georgia can have some kind of relationship with it. The Georgian people have nothing in common with people of Soviet mentality, comates og Gorbachev and people making fascist statements,” he said.
