Speaker views attempts of foreign political organisations against Georgia as hostile activity

“A letter containing disinformation and false narratives serves as hostile activity against Georgia. Georgian NGOs and politicians, which are involved in this, collaborate with a foreign force in hostile activities against Georgia,” said Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.

The Speaker remarked on the letter obtained by Rustavi 2 TV addressed to the European Commission President by members of the European People’s Party (EPP). The letter says that Georgia bypasses sanctions and assists Russia, referring to the article, which is written by an individual who is directly associated with the organization of Victor Kipiani (Chair of a Georgian think tank organization Geocase), which could likely serve this interest.

“Everybody knows that this is a lie and is confirmed amid the hysteria going on against Georgia since the beginning of the war in Ukraine. They admitted that they have not found a single fact that Georgia’s territory is used for sanctions circumvention. There is a risk that somebody attempted smuggling, but the control has been tightened, and not a single fact was confirmed. Why does EPP want to release disinformation about Georgia? This is an attempt to tailor its political agenda to the interests of bringing the puppet National Movement into power.

Therefore, attempts by foreign political organisations to use tools against Georgia to change the government serve as hostile activity. The UNM leadership has recently visited foreign countries where they held meetings. This letter is likely composed with their participation. If this letter serves hostile activities, it means that the UNM and the involved NGOs collaborate in hostile activities. Some politicians from the radical opposition are already charged with collaboration with foreign forces in hostile activities against Georgia. Summing up all this, a letter containing disinformation and false narratives serves as hostile activity against Georgia, while Georgian NGOs and politicians holding Georgian passports are collaborating in hostile activities against Georgia,” he said.

Responding to the question of possible interests of Victor Kipiani, Shalva Papuashvili responded: “Everybody who participates in the creation of disinformation narratives, including representatives of Geocase, is involved in hostile activities against Georgia.”
